Newcastle win a thrilling McDonald's Country Colts Carnival


Newcastle have won the McDonald’s Country Colts competition following a thumping bonus point win over Central Northern on the last day of the carnival, played in the South Coast and Shoalhaven areas.


Going into the last day’s play, seven of the eight teams had hopes of taking out the title, with the ladder evenly balanced - Newcastle, Central Coast and Riverina all on 9 points, Central Northern on 7 points and Western, Greater Illawarra and North Coastal on 6 points.


The final table read:

Newcastle 14, North Coastal 10 (0.872), Western 10 (-0.031), Greater Illawarra 10 (-0.618), Riverina 9 (0.669), Central Coast 9 (0.557), Central Northern 7, Southern Districts 0



Jake Scott (Riverina) was named Player of the Carnival.


A big thank you to the volunteers of South Coast DCA – Lake Illawarra CC, Gerringong CC, The Rail CC, Shellharbour CC and Shoalhaven DCA – Shoalhaven Ex-Services CC and Berry Shoalhaven Heads CC who provided top notch facilities to allow the players to express themselves.
