Newcastle have taken out the McDonald's Country Colts competition after remaining undefeated for the duration of the event. The last day saw Newcastle take on Central Coast, with the winner being crowned Colts champion.
After a delayed start, Newcastle batted first and could only manage 189 with Lachlan Williams (40), Kel Wilson (39), Hunter Palmer (34) and Austen Hiskens (25) all getting starts with a disciplined Central Coast bowling attack doing the job. Zak Graham led the way with the ball taking 4-22.
In reply, the pressure of runs on the board proved to be too much, with Central Coast dismissed for only 87, despite the efforts of captain Jaylen Johnston who remained unbeaten on 36. Jamie Dickson (4-25) and Harry Campbell (3-10) led the way for Newcastle.
The final ladder was Newcastle 27, North Coastal 21, Central Coast 17, Central Northern 12, Riverina 11, Greater Illawarra 10, Southern Districts 6, Western 4
Jaylen Johnston was named Player of the Carnival leading both the run scorers with 222 runs at 111 and 12 wickets at 12.17.
Others to do well with the bat were Rory McLean (Nth Coastal) with 217 runs at 54.25 and Sam Davis (Central Northern) - 201 runs at 50.25.
Next best with the ball was Jamison Dawes (Nth Coastal) with 10 wickets at 10.10.
Country Cricket would like to thank Central Coast Cricket Association for the fantastic job hosting the event at Tuggerah, noting the efforts of the ground staff led by Paul Deaves and John Rainger. Also a big thank you to Lisarow Ourimbah Cricket Club who looked after the catering for the event.
